Improve plybond strength

    FiberScan™Online

    APPLICATION: Forming Section

The moisture content of the plies at the combining point is the most critical factor affecting plybond strength of multiply sheets. Studies show that a gain in plybond strength may be obtained by accurately controlling certain moisture contents such as prior to the combining point or at the location where the starch is applied.

The FiberScanOnline system is the most accurate microwave sensor on the market that allows to precisely obtain the moisture content and consistency at various strategic locations of your forming section.

    OUTPUTS:

    • Sheet Consistency (%)
    • Water Mass
    • Temperature
    • Conductivity
    • Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)

Number of FiberScanOnline sensors used in the study : Four (4)

The data collected from the FiberScanOnline sensors revealed that a lower consistency on the filler ply combined with a higher vacuum level in the first vacuum box of the filler ply led to better quality of the plybond.

Knowing that for a multilayer machine it is important to know where the fines are located, the data collected from the FiberScanOnline sensors was carefully analyzed while vacuums were adjusted with the objective of ''moving'' the fines as desired. The ultimate goal was to focus on locations where bonding was poor.
